youtube channels
- acollierastro: a science communication channel. she made a video about the failures of string theory which i love.
- Alfa0xtrot: funny video game man.
- Anark: dry, informative anarchist video essays.
- Andrewism: leftist essays with hopeful, inspiring messages.
- Any Austin: video game channel but quirkier than others. he investigates things like unemployment rates in Pokemon cities, the quality of Skyrim's restaurants, and which popular video game character can hold their breath the longest.
- Atomic Shrimp: a "menagerie channel," as i like to call them. older Englishman with various hobbies shares his random projects, knowledge, and experiences. some of his content includes scam-baiting, unboxing and trying "weird" canned foods, and walks through the countryside.
- Atrocity Guide: kind of a true crime channel, mostly a "bizarre incident that really happened" channel. cults, kidnappings, odd tragedies, that sort of thing.
- Awesome Earthmovers: uploads footage of construction equipment at work.
- BobbyBroccoli: excellently-edited documentaries, usually about science villains.
- Dagnel: speedruns, mainly of Animal Crossing categories, but plays other games on occasion.
- hazel: long form videos about the most random, obscure of anime-related topics.
- Khadjia Mbowe: video essays about feminism, gender, race, and pop culture. they have a cool energy. their trilogy about critical race theory is cool.
- Make Weird Music: self-defining. i've discovered a fair amount of good stuff through them.
- Mega Machines Channel: more construction equipment footage.
- Melody Nosurname: video game furry. she has a real physical puppet of her fursona and that's what cinched my subscription tbh.
- Nyx Fears: horror movies and disturbing content.
- pannenkoek2012: legendary Mario 64 challenge runner. he's the source of the "but first we have to talk about parallel universes" meme if you don't recognize the name.
- Patricia Taxxon: infrequent videos about truly the most random of topics, but she's one of those i could listen to talk about anything. her essay about the ethics of having sex with furries was paradigm-shifting.
- Ro Ramdin: very funny and insightful. she talks about pop culture and celebrities but often uses those to jump into a larger point about the wider situations in which we find ourselves in this late capitalist hellscape. if nothing else, watch to listen to her roast random famous people.
- Special Books by Special Kids: a channel near and dear to my heart. the host travels around and interviews people with various disabilities and health conditions in order to spread awareness, educate the public, and facilitate connections. very warm and wholesome energy all the time. big warning: sometimes he interviews terminally ill people, including children.
- Squiddo: funny Minecraft stuff.
- The Octopus Lady: fun marine biology facts.
- tomei: Japanese artist who makes food art and also curates playlists. i really like their playlists.
- Yahiamice: very chaotic Minecraft stuff.
cool/useful websites
- Font Meme: allows you to generate a text logo with a bunch of different effects for free. it's how i made my site logo.
- pinetools.com: free tools for things like image manipulation, math, programming, and stuff.
- machinesoul.net: information and writing about being machinekin/mechanical.
- TFWiki: one of the most absurdly detailed and thorough wikis that exists. i reference it a lot when writing fanfiction. it's hard to communicate just how silly and impressive this wiki is without linking to a bunch of pages, but it's worth looking through regardless of how much or how little you care about Transformers.
- The Phrontistery: huge collection of weird, rare English-language words.
- Imgflip is Dead: does what imgflip does, but better.
- city-data.com: explore stats for neighborhoods around the United States. also has a bizarrely big, active, and interesting forum.
- explore.org: wildlife webcams. of course you want these.
- Obscure TFs: lesser-known and forgotten Transformers characters. there are a lot.
games
- PBBG Lite: listings of PBBGs, or persistent browser-based games.
- The PBBG Directory: another PBBG listing site.
- Poppy Seed Pets: one of the best new virtual pet sites around. there isn't much player-to-player interaction, it's very much a "lone wolf" kind of game, but that's nice for me. everything is cute, lowkey, and it uses idle game elements to great effect. it has a lot more depth than it might appear to have at first glance. i'm Haven.
- MagiStream: old-school clickable-collecting game. they recently revamped the site to solve several lag problems and it runs pretty well now. my name there is Aromanth but i'm not super active on the forums.
- Swarm Sim: incremental game about raising an evil army of bugs. it's very generous to free players and surprisingly addictive. it has a Steam version with 3D models and stuff, but i like the text-only version.
- Varamexia: a solid PBBG with skilling and a fair bot-check timer. i'm Kalantha.
- Gates of Survival: another skilling-based PBBG, this time with avatars. these games are slow but it's nice to have something to check in on every once in a while. my name here is also Kalantha.
- The Final Outpost: clickables website with an involved storyline. you are a scientist who just woke up on a post-apocalyptic Earth millions of years in the future and your job is to catalogue all the new weird creatures that evolved while you were asleep. good art and variety of creatures. i'm Handler.
- Goatlings: a game in the style of old-school virtual pet sites. entirely focused on goats. lots of different types of goats, cute items, and avatar customization. very lowkey and slow-paced, just a chill experience. my username is Vampirecat.
